Pastor Greeting

Pastor Taylor Haley

Taylor Haley

Jesus’ ministry and teaching was not confined to a particular day, place or people.  Instead, he engaged people at the intersection of life and faith.  He taught on the seashore, healed in the countryside, and demanded justice in the city.  He cared for both the spiritual and physical needs of all people.

At First Presbyterian Church our ministry meets people where they are and provides opportunities to encounter Christ in daily living.  Our worship services center on a Scripture-based message, applying the Old and New Testaments, using illustrations to help worshippers carry the message with them during the week. We are committed to the spiritual growth of the all with ministries geared toward every age group.  We find strength in our rich heritage and hope for the future in Christ Jesus.

We invite you to join us at the intersection, because we are “more than just Sunday morning.”

Partnering in Ministry

Membership in the Presbyterian is not an obligation or a “must do,” but rather it is a joyful response to God’s grace towards us, and a joining in the ministry of Jesus Christ as expressed through the PCUSA.

Part of what I love about that definition is that being a part of the church does not center around meeting our own needs, or being served by others, but instead it is a winsome invitation to join in Christ’s ministry of healing and reconciliation on earth.

Years ago we designated a particular Sunday to celebrate our Music Ministry; Another was recognized as Education Sunday. It is wonderful to celebrate these areas of dedicated and consistent ministry, but some areas of our ministry ended up not being recognized. We established Partnership Sunday to celebrate the broader witness of First Presbyterian Church. Partnership Sunday is an annual celebration that recognizes that every member is involved in the ministry of Jesus Christ – whether as a Deacon, serving on Session or another team, helping with VBS, serving a meal at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, leading in worship as part of the choir or liturgist, or providing a Sunday morning Bible skit.

In the first chapter of Philippians the apostle Paul writes, “I thank my God every time I remember you.  In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

The way Paul expresses his joy about partnership in ministry is how I feel about our church. I think about the members who have been here for 50+ years as well as those who have just joined us, and I am grateful to partner in ministry with you.

Let’s celebrate Partnership Sunday together June 4. We will enjoy a cake reception following both our 8:30 and 10:30 worship services.
