Music Ministry

Experience worship through a range of music as it is offered to the glory of God.  Many types of musical expression is offered at each service to invite all into a transforming relationship with Jesus Christ. You’ll experience diversity in contemporary songs, traditional hymns, choral anthems, instrumental and vocal solos all carefully chosen to enhance the weekly worship theme.

The Sanctuary Choir enriches our worship with a variety of musical selections ranging from classic through contemporary choral literature. This multi-generational group of singers middle school aged and older offers music leadership at our 10:30 worship service. The Sanctuary Choir has been an integral part of the ministry of First Pres since it was founded in 1866.

Our Worship Team provides musical leadership at weekly Sunday services and leads monthly Wednesday Worship.  Vocals are joined by piano, guitar, bass, and other instruments.  All songs are projected on the large screen including notes as well as lyrics for easier participation by all.

Our Music Director coordinates with instrumentalists and vocalists to prepare solos and small groups for special music ministry offerings and hymn accompaniments.  Musicians freely share their gifts to the glory of God no matter their age or ability.

The sanctuary is filled by the sound of our 29-rank Casavant Organ, installed in the worship space in 1972. Its majestic voice is an inspiration, setting the mood of the service from pensive meditation to joyous celebration. The pipe organ and the two Yamaha grand pianos are used for weekly worship services.

In support of music in the community, the church hosts many concerts and music related events including the La Crosse Chamber Chorale, UWL Choral Union, American Guild of Organists concerts, student piano, vocal and instrumental recitals, and educational outreach to local musicians and UWL students. The church is the weekly rehearsal location for the La Crosse Chamber Chorale.
