Carol Bell, Co-Director of Children and Youth Ministries
I have always enjoyed working with children. My adventures with them began in my high school and college years working as a camp counselor in eastern Wisconsin. My college major was Therapeutic Recreation at UW- La Crosse. I had a special interest in hospitalized children and completed my internship at the University of Minnesota Children’s Rehab Center. During my time there I was involved in Campus Crusade for Christ. I graduated in the spring of 1975. My first job was working for the Red Cross as a recreation worker at a the Great Lakes Military Hospital. In 1976 I was hired as the Recreation Therapist at Gundersen in La Crosse working part time in the Pediatric Unit and part time in the Rehabilitation unit. Eventually I was was moved to full time in the pediatric unit. I witness many changes in patient care over the years until my retirement in 2017. After that I volunteered as a children’s leader in Bible Study Fellowship which I continue to do along with my job at First Pres.
