Facilities Care Coordinator

     Essential Responsibilities

Building and Facility Care

  • Clean and maintain worship, office, educational, fellowship, kitchen, nursery, and restroom areas.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, strip, wax, and polish floors as needed.
  • Clean carpets, windows, mirrors, fixtures, drinking fountains, and other building surfaces.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers throughout the facility.
  • Monitor building conditions and address routine maintenance needs.
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks within the scope of the position including musical instruments.
  • Report maintenance concerns requiring outside contractors or specialized repair.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and welcoming environment throughout the church.
  • Updating worship spaces as needed.
  • Other duties may be added that are deemed necessary.

Grounds Maintenance

  • Mow lawns and maintain landscaped areas.
  • Water, trim, weed, and care for flowers, shrubs, and trees.
  • Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, entrances, and other designated areas.
  • Assist with seasonal grounds maintenance and outdoor improvement projects.
  • Help maintain safe and attractive outdoor spaces for church members and visitors.

Event and Ministry Support

  • Set up and take down tables, chairs, equipment, and room configurations for worship services, meetings, classes, receptions, funerals, weddings, and special events.
  • Ensure rooms are prepared and properly arranged according to schedules and event needs.
  • Assist staff and ministry leaders in supporting church programs and activities.
  • Respond to facility concerns and maintenance requests in a timely manner.
  • Help create a welcoming experience for church members, guests, and community groups using the facility.

 Equipment, Security, and Safety

  • Safely operate and maintain cleaning, maintenance, lawn care, and snow removal equipment.
  • Monitor and replenish cleaning and maintenance supplies.
  • Follow church safety procedures and report safety concerns promptly.
  • Assist with building opening and closing procedures as assigned.
  • Monitor building security and report concerns regarding safety, access, or facility use.
  • Assist with key control and facility access procedures as directed.
  • Respond appropriately to facility emergencies, weather-related events, and urgent maintenance situations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous custodial, building maintenance, groundskeeping, or related experience preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and attentive to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to take initiative.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff, volunteers, church members, visitors, and outside contractors.
  • Commitment to maintaining a professional and positive work environment.

Hospitality and Relationship Skills

  • Demonstrates a friendly, helpful, and professional attitude when interacting with church members, visitors, vendors, volunteers, and community groups.
  • Understands that the appearance, cleanliness, and readiness of church facilities contribute to the church's ministry of hospitality and welcome.
  • Supports a culture of respect, service, and teamwork throughout the congregation.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with staff, volunteers, and facility users.

 Technology and Communication Skills

The Facilities Care Coordinator should be comfortable using basic technology tools to support communication and facility operations, including:

  • Regular use of email for communication and work-related updates.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to use a smartphone and mobile applications.
  • Ability to access and respond to schedules, work requests, calendars, and facility information electronically.
  • Ability to use or learn security systems, building access systems, maintenance tracking tools, and other technology used by the church.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with church staff, volunteers, vendors, and facility users.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials, furniture, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to move tables, chairs, and equipment for worship services, meetings, and special events.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.
  • Ability to safely use ladders and perform routine maintenance activities.
  • Ability to safely operate cleaning, lawn care, and snow removal equipment.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions throughout the year.
  • Ability to perform physical work for extended periods while maintaining attention to safety.

 Work Schedule and Compensation

The normal work schedule will be established by the church. Flexibility is required to accommodate worship services, special events, seasonal needs, weather-related responsibilities, and occasional evening or weekend activities.

* This position will average 20 hours per week.

* $15 - $18 per hour depending on experience.

Working Environment

This position regularly involves exposure to cleaning products, maintenance equipment, noise, dust, weather conditions, and other environmental factors commonly associated with facility and grounds maintenance.
